This Torpedo " Blue Bird " portable typewriter was made in West Germany in 1961. Torpedo was taken over by Remington Rand in the 1930's and it's reputation was lifted when in 1955 Hanne Friess won an international typing competition in Monte Carlo using a Torpedo Solitaire and claimed the world title.
This Blue Bird is in very good overall condition for its age and is lovely to type on and has the slightly larger pica size and very attractive type face giving you 10 letters to the inch. We have also fitted a new professionally covered rubber platen. It has an all metal body and is in a two tone light grey and blue colour with silver chrome trim with the Blue Bird logo in silver and " Made in Western Germany "on the carriage and the manufactures details on the back. It has light blue coloured keys with darker grey shift, tab, back space, margin release, space bar and carriage knobs. There are a few minor marks to the body, mainly on the carriage.
