This Blue Bird portable typewriter was made in Germany in 1935. Torpedo was taken over by Remington Rand in the 1930's and the Blue Bird name was used for the UK market.
This Blue Bird is in very good overall condition for its age and is in a rare dark red enamel colour with glass topped keys. It has the slightly larger "pica" size type face giving you 10 letters to the inch and types well. The keys are all in a lovely condition in a white colour with silver chrome metal surrounds and it has the Blue Bird logo on the carriage and at the back. There are a few minor marks to the body, mainly at low down on the left hand side and the right hand side and the top central edge of the carriage and at the front edge, but generally it's in a wonderful condition.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and is fitted with a new top quality American made black and red Universal ribbon on metal spools ,so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal typewriter ribbons from $13.90 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You can then rewind new ribbon onto the metal spools now in the typewriter.
It comes with its original covered wooden carry case in red which is functional, but does have some marks and stains on the inside and the outside. There is also signs of age and wear to the closure and the handle and metal knob opening which is not original, although these do work well. You can leave the machine on the carry case base board or take it off by just undoing the 4 screws on the underside of the base board.
This is a wonderful 1930's Blue Bird typewriter in a rare colour with glass topped keys.
