Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932. It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters.
This model is a number 5 and was made in 1959 in England and has a metal body in a lovely rich cream enamel colour with black keys and dark green shift keys and space bar. This model has the more unusual and very lovely Imperial "Distinctive Book " Type in a Pica size giving you 10 letters to the inch.
It has " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo badge at the front.
This one is in a good condition with just some marks mainly to the centre front bar and the back edges where the paper rest has rubbed over the years, a couple of small chips on the ribbon cover and some very minor wear on the space bar.
It types well and we have fitted a brand new top quality American made ribbon as well as giving it a professional service, clean, adjusting and testing it so its all ready for you to take out of the box and start typing on.
Universal typewriter ribbons can be purchased from us when required and are available from $13.90 in plain black, Red/Black and a range of other colour options. You can use these in the typewriter or rewind the new ribbon onto the metal Imperial spools currently in the machine.
It comes with a smart creme coloured original Imperial " luxury "carry case with 2 zips, a fastening to close and two leather handles which are all working well. There are a few marks and signs of wear to the outside and inside of the case but generally it is in a very good condition. We also include a copy of an original instruction booklet .
The typewriter measures 32cm by 28 cm by 11 cm high.
This is a wonderful late 50's Imperial typewriter with a rarer type face.
