1938 Underwood Universal

$0.00 AUD

This is a 1938 Underwood Universal portable typewriter in good working order and a lovely condition for its age. Underwood was based in New York and became Underwood Elliott Fisher around 1927 before later becoming known as the Underwood Corporation and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti.

It has 4 banks of black coloured keys with silver chrome surrounds with creme coloured letters and numbers, which are all in a nice overall condition with some slight discolouration to a few. The Back Spacer and Shift Lock keys are in a green colour.  This model has some accented keys and one accented key which has been fitted at some point and has a different chrome surround. There is the Underwood name and logo in gold on the carriage as well as the manufacturers details on the back of the typewriter.

This model has the larger " Pica " type face so types 10 letters to the inch.

This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made black ribbon so it's ready for you to start typing.

We can supply Group 9 typewriter ribbons when required from $13.90 each including postage and a range of other colour options on Universal spools.

It's is in a lovely overall condition with a crinkle paintwork finish with just a few marks and signs of wear mainly on the left hand side of the ribbon cover. The silver chrome work is also in a good overall condition with just some minor wear evident in places .

The size of the typewriter is  26 cm wide by 26 cm deep and is 12 cm high and so is a nice portable size. We also include a copy of an Underwood Champion instruction leaflet which is basically the same as this Universal model. It just doesn't have the tabulator function of the Champion model.

It comes with a carry case which is also in a good functional condition. The handle and latch to close both work well. There are some very minor marks and discolouration to the case in places on both the inside and outside.

This is a fabulous and very collectable 1930's Underwood.

"My Olivetti arrived a couple days ago. Got a chance to test it out and it works like a dream (you wouldn’t guess it was nearly half a century old). Thank you for including the original metal spools, it adds a great touch to the machine. Looking forward to adding another typewriter to the collection sometime soon..." - Jake
