This shiny black enamel Remington portable No 5 typewriter was made in the UK from parts imported from the US in 1938 and is the " Tab " model which came out with an improved tabulator from previous models . It has the traditional black coloured keys with silver chrome surrounds and the letters and numbers in a dark creme and the red tab or "Tab " key .This one types with the slightly larger "Pica" type face so types with 10 letters to the inch.
It has the Remington logo and Model 5 on the front in gold and the information regarding the making in the UK on the carriage, although the latter is a little faded now. There are some minor marks and discolouration to the enamel paintwork in places but generally its in a nice glossy condition. Please note there may be some colour reflection from the vintage wall map behind. The silver chrome work is also in a nice condition with just some minor fading in places.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and is fitted with a new Group top quality American made ribbon onto it's original metal spools so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal typewriter ribbons from $13.90 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the original Remington spools that are in the typewriter.
The typewriter measures 25 cm wide by 28 cm deep and 10 cm high.
It comes with a case which is fully functional and a good condition for it's age with just some minor marks and signs of wear to the covering over the wooden case in places. The original leather handle is functional but has signs of wear. The latch to close still works well well and it has the original " Remington World Service " label on the inside lid and typewriter brush. You can keep the typewriter on its base board or take it off by undoing the 4 screws.
This is a fabulous working 1930's vintage typewriter with its black enamel finish and a nice portable size. We also include a photo copy of an original instruction manual.
