1938 Imperial with new platen

$0.00 AUD

Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932. It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters.

This model is a No 1 and was made in 1938 and is in a gloss black colour with a metal body. It has the traditional silver chrome surrounds on the vintage creme keys with black coloured letters and numbers on the keys. It has the Imperial Royal Warrant crest on the top right,  " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back and the "Imperial " logo on the top above the carriage as well as above the keys. This one types with the slightly larger "pica" sized type face giving you 10 letters to the inch and has the chrome finials on the top of each metal spool. We have also replaced the rubber platen in this machine with a new professionally engineered new rubber platen.

There are only a few very minor marks to the metal body of the typewriter, but generally it is an extremely good condition.

This typewriter has been professionally serviced, cleaned, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made Universal ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.

We can supply Universal TW38 typewriter ribbons from $13.90 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools.

The carry case has some signs of wear, mainly on the inside, but is generally in a good and functional condition and comes with it's original key for the lock. You can keep the machine on it's carry case base board or take it off by just undoing the 4 screws on the underneath.

This typewriter comes with a photocopy of an original Imperial manual with instructions on how to use it, change its ribbon and a whole list of its features.

The typewriter measures 29cm by 29cm by 12 cm high.

This is a wonderful classic 1930's Imperial typewriter in gloss black and new rubber platen fitted.

"My Olivetti arrived a couple days ago. Got a chance to test it out and it works like a dream (you wouldn’t guess it was nearly half a century old). Thank you for including the original metal spools, it adds a great touch to the machine. Looking forward to adding another typewriter to the collection sometime soon..." - Jake
