A wonderful Mercedes Prima typewriter in a gloss black finish with glass topped keys and made in Germany in 1935. The Mercedes name for typewriters had nothing to do with the famous car company, except that they both agreed to be able to use their trading names as long as one didn't ever make cars and the other never made typewriters. The Mercedes typewriter company made many wonderful machines in Germany before being taken over by Underwood and this model has a similar Underwood portable style.
It is in a very good overall condition with only a few minor scratches and marks to the metal body, mainly at the back. It has the Mercedes logo in gold on the carriage and the manufactures details on the back. The keys are also in a nice condition with just some slight discolouration to a few. It has the slightly larger "pica" sized type face giving you 10 letters to the inch. Please note this model was designed to remain on its carry case base board.
We have given it a clean, professional service, adjusted it and fitted a new ribbon top quality American made ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
Universal TW38 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from us when required and cost from $13.90 including postage. Available in plain black , red/black and other colour options. You would then rewind the new ribbon onto the metal spools that are in the typewriter.
It comes with its original wooden carry case with leatherette covering which is in a good functional condition. It does have some age related signs of wear and marks on both the inside and outside. The handle and closure fitting work well.
This Mercedes measures 28 cm x 30 cm and is 14 cm and is a nice example of a relatively rarer machine.
