This is a wonderful 1934 Underwood Junior portable typewriter in good working order and a fabulous condition. Underwood was based in New York and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti. The is the "Junior" as it was sold as as a Depression era model at a lower price and was a no frills typewriter . It has no bell , right hand margin stop , backspace , margin release or tab functions . You can also only use a one colour ribbon on this one. What it does have however is glass topped keys in a quite an unusual blue colour and a lovely gloss black enamel paint finish in a stunning condition for its age . This one has the slightly larger "Pica" sized font giving you 10 letters to the inch. Please note that some colour from the vintage map behind in the images may be reflecting on the enamel paintwork.
It has 4 banks of glass topped keys and these are in the blue colour with silver chrome rim and white coloured letters and numbers , which are all in a nice condition with some discolouration to a few. The shift keys are in French .The metal chrome work is also in a very good condition with just some small signs of wear in places . There is the Underwood name and logo in gold above the carriage as well as the manufacturers details on the back of the typewriter. The typewriter types very well for its age and we have given it a clean , professional service , adjusted and tested it and fitted a new ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on .
New Group 9 black ribbons can be obtained from us from $12.50 including postage or we have other plain colour uptions in a Universal ribbon. We recommend you rewind new ribbon onto the existing metal spools.
The size of the typewriter is 27 cms wide by 27 cms deep and is 12 cms high and so is a nice portable size . It comes with its original case which is also in a good condition for its age .The handle and latch to close both work well. There are some marks and discolouration to the case in places .This one has the original warranty label on the inside of the case lid and its original leather handle.
This is a fabulous and very collectable 1930's working typewriter in a lovely condition and with a service and new ribbon is all ready to start typing on again .
It also comes with a photocopy of an original instruction booklet for Underwood Universal Portables which will provide valuable help for changing the ribbon .
