1934 Remington Compact

$0.00 AUD

This wonderful Remington No 2 Compact portable typewriter was made in 1934 in the UK from parts imported from the US and one of the most innovative features is its "pop-up" type bars which are raised for use via a side lever and lay back flat for storage. There is the usual Remington Portable logo on the top right and top left in gold and the copy on the back of the carriage that the typewriter was assembled using British labour in London from imported parts. This one has the slightly larger  " Pica " typeface so types with 10 letters to the inch.

The typewriter is in full working order and in a generally very good condition for its age with a nice black enamel gloss paint finish to its metal body, with some small signs of wear mainly on the pop up plate underneath the type bars and some small paint touch ups in places. This model has  nice classic vintage creme coloured keys with silver chrome surrounds and black letters and numbers. The silver chrome work is fully functional but has lost some of its original sheen in places. The type bars raise up and it types well with just some minor wear to some of the type heads.

This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in working order and is fitted with a new top quality American made Universal  ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on. We also include a photo copy of a Remington Portable instruction manual.

New Universal TW38 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from $13.90 including  postage. You can purchase any manual typewriter ribbon for this machine and rewind the new ribbon onto its original metal spools and you can use two tone red and black ribbons on this machine as well as other colours.

The wooden carry case is in a good general condition but it does show signs of wear and age with some small marks to internal lining and metal fixings and the outside leatherette covering. The original leather handle was missing so we have fashioned a new leather handle. You can take the typewriter of the base board by just undoing 4 screws.

The typewriter measures 28 cm across by 28 cm deep and 8 cm high.

This is a highly collectable working 1930's vintage typewriter with the pop up typebars in a wonderful shiny black enamel finish and would make a wonderful and special gift and be ideal for small typing projects, letters and poetry. If you are wanting to embark on a larger typing project this may not be the best option.

"My Olivetti arrived a couple days ago. Got a chance to test it out and it works like a dream (you wouldn’t guess it was nearly half a century old). Thank you for including the original metal spools, it adds a great touch to the machine. Looking forward to adding another typewriter to the collection sometime soon..." - Jake
