This lovely Remington No 2 portable typewriter was made in 1927 in the UK from imported American parts and one of the most innovative features is its "pop-up" type bars which are raised for use via a side lever and lay back flat for storage. There is the usual Remington Portable logo on the top right in gold and this one has the lovely red Remington " To save time is to lengthen life " motif on the left side. It has the slightly larger " pica " type face so types with 10 characters to the inch.
The typewriter is in full working order and in a generally very good condition for its age with a nice black enamel gloss paint finish to its metal body with just a few marks mainly on the carriage. The silver chrome work is also in a nice condition and the type bars raise up and it types well. The keys are all in a good condition and are all of a beautiful and classic vintage creme colour with chrome silver surrounds and black letters and numbers.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in working order and is fitted with a new top quality American made ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on. We also include a photo copy of a Remington Portable instruction manual.
Universal typewriter ribbons can be purchased from us from $13.90 including postage and available in black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You then rewind the new ribbon onto its original metal spools.
The carry case is the standard wood with leatherette covering and is in a good general condition for it's age with some marks on the outer sides and on the internal lining. It's original leather handle was missing and a another leather handle has been fitted. You can take the typewriter of the base board if you wish by just undoing 4 screws. This one has the "Remington Guarantee " on the inside lid although now slightly worn.
The typewriter measures 28 cm across by 28 cm deep and 8 cm high.
This is a highly collectable working 1920's vintage typewriter with the pop up type bars in a wonderful shiny black enamel finish and would make a wonderful and special gift and is ideal for typing letters, poetry or smaller typing projects.
