This is a wonderful 1926 Underwood Standard 3 Bank portable typewriter . Underwood was based in New York and made a wide variety of typewriters up until the early 1960's when Underwood was taken over by Olivetti.
It has 3 banks of glass topped keys and these are in an off white colour with chrome rim and black coloured letters and numbers which are all in a nice condition. Each type bar has three letters, numbers or figures , so that the 3 banks of keys cover all the normal keyboard requirements . It comes with metal ribbon spools and has the two metal spool nuts to hold them in place and has the Underwood name and logo on the carriage ( slightly faded ), " Underwood Standard Portable Typewriter " at the front ( quite badly faded )and the Patent details on the back.
It's is in a good overall condition for its age with a shiny black enamel paintwork finish , but does have some signs of wear which at some point has been touched up .The silver chromework on the keys is a lovely condition but is faded and marked in other areas .
This lovely looking Underwood would do well for writing letters , poetry or doing smaller typing jobs. For precision typing and larger typing projects this may not be the best option.
This typewriter has been professionally serviced , cleaned , adjusted and tested. It is fitted with a new Group 9 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on !
We can supply Group 9 typewriter ribbons from $12.50 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options in a Universal ribbon. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools .A ribbon will last you a long time and to give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months.
It comes with its original case which is in a good overall condition .It's original handle has at some point been lost and a substitute handle fitted . There are a few small marks on the inside and outside in various places .
The size of the typewriter is 27 cms wide by 21 cms deep and is 11 cms high and so is a nice small portable size . We also include a copy of it's original manual.
This is a highly collectable Underwood 3 bank 1926 vintage typewriter in a classic black and would make a wonderful and special gift that makes for a great display item and can be used regularly for small typing projects.
