This wonderful Remington portable typewriter was made in March 1924 in the US and one of the most innovative features is its "pop-up" typebars which are raised for use via a side lever and lay back flat for storage.
There is the usual Remington Portable logo on the top right , the red Remington typewriter badge on the top left and " Made in USA " on the back. This one has the slightly larger " Pica " sized font giving you 10 letters to the inch.
The typewriter is in full working order and in a generally very good condition for its age with a nice shine to the black enamel paintwork. It does have a very few small marks and signs of wear to the paintwork in places and there is some wear to a few of the typebars. The silver chrome work is also in a nice condition for its age. The keys are all in a good condition and are all of a beautiful vintage creme colour with silver chrome surrounds and black letters and numbers . This model has the mechanism for rolling on the platen ( moving to the next line ) by squeezing the two small silver levers at the left hand end of the carriage together.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in working order and is fitted with a new ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on. We also include a photo copy of a Remington Portable instruction manual.
Universal typewriter ribbons can be purchased from us from $13.90 including postage. You can purchase any manual typewriter ribbon for this machine and rewind the new ribbon onto its original metal spools so you can use two tone red and black ribbons on this machine as well as other colours options taken off Universal spools.
This machine comes with its original wooden case which has a black leatherette covering and metal clasp closure and an original travel label to the outside of the case which is from the Royal Mail Line - Rotterdam to London and has in ink written on the label " Dr Drake ". There are some small marks, discolouration and sign of wear to the case, mainly on the inside, but it is generally in a good functional condition. The original handle has been lost but we have fashioned and fitted a new leather handle. You can leave the typewriter on it's base board or take it off by unscrewing 4 screws.
The typewriter measures 26 cm across by 28 cm deep and 8 cm high .
This is a highly collectable working and early 1920's vintage typewriter with the pop up typebars. If you are after a precision typing machine for extensive and long typing projects then this may not be the best option, but if you are after something special and very collectable that you can do some occasional typing on then this is certainly one to consider.
