The Olympia typewriter factory split at the end of the Second World War with new production starting in West Germany under the Olympia brand and the old factory which was in East Germany making under the Optima brand name . This very nice shiny black coloured typewriter was made in 1954. Optima have a good reputation as quality typewriters and for having a nice "touch". This one is in good working order and has black keys with white letters and numbers. It has the Optima logo in silver to the front left of the ribbon cover and the Plana badge on the front right. The ribbon spools are accessed by lifting two "gull wing" covers. It types well and is in a generally very good condition but there are some small wear marks on the left back corner of the ribbon cover where the carriage return lever has rubbed over the years.
We have given it a clean , service , adjusted and tested it and fitted a new ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on .
GR1 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from many online suppliers or we can supply you with new ribbons when required . You would then rewind the ribbon onto the existing spools. They generally cost around $10 including postage . However a ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
The typewriter measures 28 cms across by 30 cms deep by 10 cms high . This typewriter does not come with case and will need something to protect it and make it portable. However it's small size should ensure it fitting into most brief cases.
This is a good quality well designed compact 1954 portable typewriter in full working order , which not only looks attractive but is a good typer !
