Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932 . It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters .
This model is a number 4 and was made in 1960 in England and has a metal body in a light "sea foam " green colour with black keys and dark green shift keys and space bar .It has the Imperial name on the front and " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back. This one types with the standard sized " elite " font so has 12 letters to the inch and was also made with various keys for authors or journalists making it a rarer model . It has keys such as the dagger motif for denoting footnotes and the "cf" motif for comparisons.
There are a few very minor marks to the metal body of the typewriter ,mainly on the ribbon cover and at the front corners , but generally this typewriter is in a good condition for its age . The silver chrome work has a nice shine and it has its original metal spools and types well .
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced , adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new Group 1 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We also include a photo copy of an original product booklet .
We can supply Group 1 typewriter ribbons when required from $12.50 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options in a Universal spool. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools. A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
It comes with it's standard fibre glass grey coloured carry case which is has a clasp to close at the front and a working handle .There is some discolouration ,signs of wear and some minor marks in places on both the inside and outside but again this carry case is in a very nice functional condition. We also include a copy of an original instruction booklet .
The typewriter measures 28cms by 30 cms by 11 cms high .
This is a wonderful Mad Men style typewriter in a fabulous colour and in good working order and with its special writers keys a very collectable model.
