This lovely Blue Bird portable typewriter was made in the 1950's in the US Zone of Germany by the makers of Torpedo typewriters who used the "Blue Bird " name for export. This one was exported to London. Although Remington had taken over the company in the early 1930's , Torpedo typewriters had and still have amongst collectors a reputation for making wonderful machines . This one is in a metal blue/ grey colour and has the Blue Bird logo on the carriage in silver and " Made in Germany " on the right hand side.and has grey coloured keys and darker grey space bar , shift keys and carriage knobs.
This typewriter is in full working order and in a very good condition with just some minor marks and slight discolouration in places to the enamel paintwork .There is only slight wear to the silver chrome work on the trim which runs around the base.
We have given it a service with a clean , adjusted and tested it as well as fitting a new ribbon , so its all ready for you to start typing on .
GR1 typewriter ribbons can be purchased from many online suppliers or we can supply you with new ribbons when required . They generally cost around $10 including postage . However a ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would have lasted them around three months.
It comes with a Blue Bird beige vinyl carry case which has a partly broken zip in two corners but still closes with the latch and is functional and can be used to carry the typewriter around and protect it. The metal clasp and handle both work well . There are signs of wear and marks to the case.
We also include a photo copy of an original manual .
This is a very lovely German made and collectable working Blue Bird typewriter in a very nice overall condition .
