This Torpedo " Bluebird " portable typewriter was made in West Germany in 1960. Torpedo was taken over by Remington Rand in the 1930's and it's reputation was lifted when in 1955 Hanne Friess won an international typing competition in Monte Carlo using a Torpedo Solitaire and claimed the world title.
This Torpedo is in good overall condition for its age and is fantastic to type on and has the standard "elite" size type face giving you 12 letters to the inch. It has an all metal body and is in a two tone grey and blue colour with the Blue Bird logo in silver on the carriage and " Made in Western Germany "on the back. It has light grey coloured keys with darker grey shift, tab, back space, margin release, space bar and carriage knobs. There are a few minor marks to the body but generally it's in a wonderful condition.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and is fitted with a new top quality American made Universal ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Universal TW38 typewriter ribbons from $13.90 each including postage. Available in plain black, red/black and a range of other colour options. You can then rewind new ribbon onto the metal spools now in the typewriter.
It comes with its original vinyl carry case which is functional, but does have some marks and stains on the inside and the 2 zips no longer work. It does have a closing strap with metal fitting so can be used.
We include a copy of an original Torpedo 18 manual .
This is a lovely working typewriter which was beautifully made and types well with a wonderful snappy action and would be perfect for extended and large typing projects.
