A stunning Folding Bijou Model 4 portable typewriter made in Dresden , Germany in 1916 . Bijou typewriters were made by Seidel & Naumann pre war and the same plant was used to restart the Erika production after the war , but in what became East Germany . This one is a fine example of a wonderfully engineered and made machine and is in a shiny black enamel colour . It has the traditional off white with silver chrome surround and glass topped keys with the numbers and punctuation keys in a black .There is some discolouration to a few of the keys. It has the Bijou logo in gold on the front as well as the red Manchester Supply Co logo and the two S&N logos just above . The carriage folds forward and rests on two silver chrome supports that come out from the front corners for when not in use or to place into it's carry case.
This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced , adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new Group 1 ribbon so its all ready for you to start typing on.
We can supply Group 1 typewriter ribbons when required at $12.50 each including postage. Available in plain black, blue or purple. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the existing metal spools. A ribbon will last you a long time . To give you an idea , in an office environment with someone using a typewriter professionally a ribbon would last them around 3 months .
The enamel paintwork and silver chrome work are all in a good condition with only some small marks in places .It types well for its age and would be ideal for writing letters or peotry , but if you are after something for extensive typing projects then this may not be the best option .It comes with it's original all leather tan case which is also in a very good overall condition with just some general marks and signs of wear on both the inside and the outside. One of the two poppers on the inside that fastens the flap in the lid for documents is now missing but the handle is sound and the metal clasp to close works well. We also include a copy of the instruction manual.
This is a highly collectable folding and working 1916 Bijou typewriter in a classic black colour and would make a wonderful and special gift that makes for a great display item and can be used for small typing projects.
Delivery anywhere within Australia from our English work rooms is included in the price .
