Typewriter, 1938 Imperial The Good Companion

$1,445.00 AUD

Imperial typewriters were made in Leicester in England and the Good Companion model was first launched in 1932.It was named after J. B. Priestley's book " The Good Companions" which had been published at the same time and the collaboration with Priestley helped sell a huge number of Imperial typewriters.

This model is a "Good Companion" number 1 and was made in 1938 and has a metal body in a wonderful shiny black enamel colour with classic round off white coloured keys with silver chrome surrounds and the letters and numbers in black. It has the Royal Warrant crest on the top right side,  " Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England " on the back, the "Imperial The Good Companion " logo  at the front, "Made in Leicester England " on the front edge, " Imperial " on the carriage as well as the silver chrome finials on top of each metal spool. This model has the larger " Pica " typeface so types 10 letters to the inch.

This typewriter has been professionally cleaned, serviced, adjusted and tested. It is in full working order and fitted with a new top quality American made black ribbon so it's ready for you to start typing.

There are a few minor marks to the body of the typewriter mainly at the top left side, but generally it is in a wonderful condition. The silver chrome work is also in a very nice condition.

We can supply Universal TW38 typewriter ribbons when required from $13.90 each including postage. You would then just rewind the new ribbon onto the metal spools that are in the typewriter.

It comes with a case which has a few marks, some discolouration and some wear mainly to the internal lining, but is generally in a good functional condition. The original leather covering to the handle is now missing but the internal metal fitting means it still has a functional handle. You can keep the typewriter on its base board or take it off easily if you wish by unscrewing the screws underneath. We also include a photocopy of an original instruction booklet.

The typewriter measures 28cm by 28 cm by 11 cm high and the case is 34 cm by 34 cm and 12 cm high .

This is a fabulous 1930's Imperial typewriter in a classic black enamel colour and in a very good working order for it's age.

"My Olivetti arrived a couple days ago. Got a chance to test it out and it works like a dream (you wouldn’t guess it was nearly half a century old). Thank you for including the original metal spools, it adds a great touch to the machine. Looking forward to adding another typewriter to the collection sometime soon..." - Jake
